FAQ’s - Myths &
Misconceptions
Q. How can chiropractic care help me if my medical doctor
couldn’t?
A. The pain you feel is typically a symptom of a particular
abnormality within your body, more specifically a spinal
misalignment known as a subluxation. This subluxation may interfere
with your nervous systems ability to communicate with the body and
ultimately its natural ability to heal. Often times a medical doctor
may focus on treating the pain itself with drugs, therapy and even
surgery. Chiropractic care focuses on locating and treating the root
cause of your pain. Once the cause is determined and spinal
subluxation corrected you will notice the pain and symptoms
disappear.
Q. Does an adjustment hurt?
A. No. We use a simple and gentle method to adjust very specific
points along your spine. You won’t hear the “snap, crackle and pop”
commonly associated with chiropractic care. Generally speaking, most
practice members love getting “adjusted”. Some people may feel a
little soreness or dull ache, but this is just the body adjusting to
a properly aligned spine. Once your body is used to proper alignment
again you’ll enjoy all the benefits of overall health and wellness.
Q. A friend suggested I take my newborn baby for a chiropractic
examination. Can children benefit from chiropractic care?
A. Absolutely. During birth the child must endure a great deal of
pressure, pushing, pulling and twisting to make his/her way into the
world. This often times results in subluxations in the neck and
spine. If this goes untreated it can lead to a multitude of physical
problems both later in childhood and as an adult. Proper treatment
at an early age will ensure that your child’s nervous system is
functioning properly so he/she can have a healthy and active
childhood.
Q. If I start seeing a chiropractor will I have to get adjusted
forever?
A. No. Once your spine is properly aligned and your symptoms
disappear, you do not need to continually return for care. However,
the doctor may suggest that you consider wellness care which may
include infrequent check ups to make sure that your spine remains
aligned. Wellness care check ups often assist the doctor in locating
and correcting spinal subluxations before they begin to cause you
pain.
Q. What causes subluxations?
A. Subluxations can occur for many different reasons. Many occur
right from birth. During birth the child must endure a great deal of
pressure, pushing, pulling and twisting to make his/her way into the
world. This often times results in subluxations in the neck and
spine. As we grow older some subluxations develop as a result of
traumatic life experiences such as accidents, falls and injury.
Others may be attributed to lifestyle situations such as stress,
posture, working environments, use of computers or lack of exercise.
If left untreated subluxations may cause pain, suffering and
dis-ease. The good news is that chiropractic care can be safely
provided any time shortly after birth. Correction of the
subluxations will greatly alleviate pain symptoms and improve your
overall quality of life.
